Limestone
Hard water and sediment
This is karst country: limestone bedrock, sinkholes and springs. Water that has touched limestone leaves scale in faucets and a bed of sediment in the bottom of a water heater.
Service area
Based in Taylor County, working the towns and farm roads around it.
TC’s Plumbing & Service is based in Campbellsville, the seat of Taylor County, in the hills of south-central Kentucky beside Green River Lake. We work in town, out in the county and in the neighboring county seats.
Home. Older houses near Main Street and Campbellsville University, subdivisions from every decade since the 1960s, farms out every road, and lake homes and cabins toward Green River Lake. City water and sewer in town, rural water mains and septic tanks beyond it.
A short drive down US 68. Greensburg is one of the oldest towns in this part of the state, and its houses show it: stone and brick foundations, crawl spaces, and plumbing added a piece at a time over a century.
South along KY 55 and across the upper end of Green River Lake. Farm country, with long private water lines, yard hydrants at the barn and septic systems behind most houses.
North on US 68 through the knobs. A mix of older homes in Lebanon and Bradfordsville and farm properties in between.
What this country does to plumbing
Limestone
This is karst country: limestone bedrock, sinkholes and springs. Water that has touched limestone leaves scale in faucets and a bed of sediment in the bottom of a water heater.
Crawl spaces
Farmhouses, older homes in town and manufactured homes here mostly sit over a crawl space. The pipes run down there, out of sight and out of the heat.
Hard freezes
Most winters are gentle. Then an arctic front drops the county into single digits for a night or two, and lines in crawl spaces and outside walls split.
Sewer or septic
Homes in Campbellsville are generally on city water and sewer. Out in the county the water comes from a rural main and the drains run to a septic tank.
Green River Lake
Green River Lake lies just south of Campbellsville, across Taylor and Adair counties. Around it are weekend places and cabins that are closed up for part of the year.
An empty house in a hard freeze is where the worst plumbing damage happens: a line splits, thaws, and runs for days. We winterize seasonal homes in the fall and turn them back on in spring.
